As a researcher I am interested in climate change on various time
scales. I have worked with U/Th dating and interpretation of stable isotopes in
speleothems from the Alpine area, Northern Africa, the Arab Peninsula, and
South Africa as climate archives for the Pleistocene epoch, focusing on the
Last Interglacial.
I have also worked with peat as a climate archive, studying
stable isotopes and plant macrofossils from Sphagnum sequences from northern
Canada and Russia. During the past 10 years I have mainly been working with
stable carbon and oxygen isotopes in tree rings from northern Canada, Russia,
central Europe and Fennoscandia.
Currently I am mainly studying the influence of urban climate on tree
growth and how this can affect long climate reconstructions through biases
during the calibration period, and I am also interested in trees as potential
indicators of environmental pollution in soil and groundwater.
